Pioneer Day & Campout

The week after McCall, while Tennie went to Brighton Camp, Geoff took Adele and Ceci camping for three days so I could do some school planning and catching up.  The first day was July 24th, Pioneer Day, the day the Mormon Pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley.  It is a day of remembering, and a VERY big deal. 

They went to the Pioneer Day Parade to start things off.  People lined up along the parade route the night before and in the wee early morning.  Geoff and the girls walked out 5 minutes before it started and a nice family offered the girls a spot on their blanket right up front.  What luck!  The parade started a half block from our place, so that was easy.

A University of Utah float went by.  Look at the girls giving it a thumbs-down (they are quite vocal in their dislike of the U).

After the parade they went to a fair somewhere with the aunts, uncles and cousins.

They entered a greased pig contest that was on live TV.  Ceci got the pig!  See the video below.

Eventually they made their way to their campground just above Sundance.

Ceci began feeling really sick with the flu.  She stuck out the next few days but didn't feel good the whole time.

When we all gathered together after camp and camping adventures we headed up to Sundance again for the Summer Theater production of Annie Get Your Gun.  I played Nellie in a Dixie College performance of this play when I was in 6th grade.  It was fun to see it again, and the outdoor theater in the evening at Sundance make for a perfect summer evening.
