Nature Art

We found a gold mine of an art teacher. Every Monday she comes to our house, brings something irresistible for the kids to touch and explore, teaches us a little about Beatrice Potter or Richard Scarry, and then sets us on a drawing/watercolor adventure. Her specialty is nature.

She is given (by cats and friends) little, found creatures that she freezes for later drawing. Some might think this is a little strange, but every kid in the room is enchanted. She allows them to handle the items as much as they want. "If they break we'll just find another one." One week it was a collection of nests with eggs inside, another she brought large bugs floating in glycerin; last week she brought a frozen owl, and this week was a mole.

Geoff's mom who joined the class even had a turn holding the mole!

Adele busy painting...

She was so proud of her work

Tennie is busy trying to mix just the right color...

Geoff and I, and a handful of friends attend the class too. The teacher has a very calming nature, and all of us love when she comes. We can't wait for her Spring, Saturday hikes to paint wildflowers!
