Track Meets

This week we had our first two track meets.  The first one was 10 and under so only Ceci ran.  She did a mini hurdle race and the 400 meter.  She was nervous, to the point of sick, all day anticipating the race.  She didn't place in either, and had a major side ache during the 400 meter.  Afterward she was devastated that she didn't win and declared that with all the nerves, and not even getting close to winning, track wasn't her thing.  I applauded her for trying something new, and maybe she'll try again a little later in this short track season.  We'll see...

I love this shot!

Adele participated in the Hershey's track meet and came in 4th in the 100 meter, and we're not sure about the 100 meter relay since all the teams were from different age groups.  While Adele had those same pre-race nerves and didn't win, she was charged with the whole competitive environment.  She loved her relay team (they were thrown together just before the meet) and will likely qualify for the Hershey district meet.

Our team, the Central City Cheetahs, is the best in the Salt Lake Valley.  Real competitive runners travel across town to be on the team.  One amazing runner comes from Wyoming.  There are several very competitive Polynesian runners whose parents mean serious business, and for good reason - those kids are FAST!  The coach is the coach at East High and his alum and current runners are his assistants.  So, given all of this I'm thinking 4th place is pretty darn good, and so was Ceci's 5th place, despite a side ache.
