Marine Biology Camp - Day Four

Day four in San Salvador, Hello I'm Alex and today I was the leader of the day.

Kaylen, Katie, and I started off the day with yoga with a beautiful sunrise. Soon, everyone was up and ready for some food! We all enjoyed our breakfast and ate it very quickly. Then I told the group about the goal and word of the day. The goal of the day was for every one to do one small thing out of their comfort zone. The word of the was caruncle, caruncle is a small beak-like tooth that alligators have that helps them break out of their shells. Then we were off to get ready for our trip to a lighthouse and a cave! So we all got on our head lamps that Ginger, Abbie, Tennie, and Caden were very very excited to wear.

Then we were off to the lighthouse, the truck trips are one of the groups favorites, we all love to sit in the back with our sunglasses on and the wind blowing in our faces, looking at the beautiful island and taking it all in. Soon we were at the lighthouse at the end of the island. We went in and started to walk up the first set of stairs, each one even more steep. Finally we got to the top and Sara wanted to go next platform a little higher so she and Katie climbed up and on to the platform and all of us followed. The view at the top was so beautiful and very windy (also scary!) But even though people were scared they went up to the top. When we were done with the lighthouse we started to walk into the jungle. We walked for a little and arrived at the cave entrance and then walked down into the cave. Once in the cave were all vey excited and very nervous about all the bats flying around us. We went deeper into the cave which was kinda slippery, Miles being the helpful guy he is, gave us a extra hand. Joaquin was being very brave and walked in the cave with a purpose. We got to walk in a stream in the cave, that was amazing. Katie became one with the bats while Jesse got pooped on by one. Everyone went deep into the cave and it was so much fun.

After this we were all very hot and stinky so we went and changed into our suites and went for a swim and played games on the beach. We all ate up our lunch and headed out to East Beach for a beach clean up. It was sad to see so much debris on the beach but filled at least 8 large bags. After that we were on our way to snorkel on the beach and saw coral reefs. That was so much fun! After that we got back showered then ate dinner then we talked about our glums and glows (I was pleased that 3/4th our the group was GLUM FREE!) And talked about our Caruncles, everyone had a caruncle! We played games for a while and then finished the home work Katie and Jesse gave us from the earlier snorkel, find and identify 3 invertebrates and 5 vertebrates . We all had an amazing day.
